Demand for APEX springs grew by a lot in 2021 and 2022. It grew by so much in fact that the maximum output of our current array of coiling machines was exceeded by a fair number of springs. Since we don’t see a decrease in demand in the foreseeable future, APEX has added a brand-new WAFIOS FUL 166 spring coiling machine to its production facilities.

INTRODUCING THE WAFIOS FUL 166

WAFIOS tells us that its FUL 166 spring coiling machine represents the latest stage of development and features ‘cutting-edge’ (pun intended, surely) mechanical systems and control technology. These are improvements APEX is very interested in since it will make life, and the production of high quality coil springs, much easier for our operators. Another feature that’s new on the FUL 166 is the presence of six feed rollers instead of just four. These rollers have a smaller diameter, but together they are able to handle wire with a maximum thickness of 16mm. Feed rates are impressive as well with maximum speeds of 220 meters per minute.

SAFETY & QUALITY CONTROL

Even more important than its capacity is the FUL 166’s approach to safety features. The machine provides maximum safety without jeopardizing accessibility. The protective hood is lowered electro pneumatically and can be used in three different positions depending on the task that is being performed. Additionally, the FUL 166 comes with the new WAFIOS Vision System for quality control. Each newly produced spring is automatically measured, checked and sorted by a sophisticated system of cameras and backlights.
